Thanatos & Alkestit;

Alkestit was the beautiful wife of Admetus, who lived a lavish life in their big home and often threw parties. However, one day Alkestits husband fell ill, so ill even the healer couldn't make him better, but Apollo had given them a gift many years ago that said that someone could give their own file in exchange for the kings, even though he was a kind king, no one was willing to give their life. Alkestit couldn't bear the grief of losing her husband though, so she gave her life for his turning to Thanatos when he came that she would follow him to the underworld and die in place of her husband. Touched by this act of love Thanatos took Alkestit to the throne of the underworld where the Queen Persephone sat. She inquired why this spirit was brought before her to which Thanatos responded, "Love, my Queen, This mortal has come to you in place of her sick husband, that is why I have brought her before you, what should I do with her?". Moved by this act of true love, thinking of how she too loved her own husband, Persephone replied "Thanatos! You have done well to bring her to me, such love and devotion in a wife, she doesn't belong here. Take her back to her beloved, let him keep his life too. I order that they both shall live a long and fruitful life.". "THANK YOU MY LADY! You are ever so kind, I shall never forget your generosity!" cried Alkestit as she walked away with Thanatos. So she and her husband both lived long and happy lives together, everyday remembering the kindness shown to them by the Queen, so when Thanatos finally returned when they were both in old age, They took each other's hands and followed him willingly, to the Land of their savior.
