Pontus (Ποντος)

Translation; Sea

The Sea Himself

Pontus is the embodiment of the sea; he was born from earth (Gaia) as 'Old Man of the Sea" and he is also the grandfather of Poseidon's wife, Amphitrite. He is described to be a giant head of a man on a crab's body, along with two crab-like claws as horns on his head. The head has a long and wavy beard that is the sea. He has a female contour part whose name is Thealassa (Sea). He is also known to of had five sea related children with his mother, Gaia.


Family Ties; Pontus' mother is Gaia, and he has some children such as Phorkos, Thaumas, Nereus, Eurybia, and Keto. He also has another female half, Thealassa.

Tributes; Pontus has a symbol for himself that is two crab-claw horns, like the ones atop his head. He has many symbolic animals, as all of the sea animals are of his realm but he's known for his love of fish and whales.
