Perseus (Περσευς)

Translation: Destroyer

Monster Slayer before the time of Hercules

Perseus was one of the most celebrated heroes in Greek mythology. His mother and him were thrown into a barrel when his mother was pregnant, but they were saved and sent softly adrift to an island to be cared for. Later in life, it was Perseus who was sent by King Polydektes to slay Medusa, cutting off her head. Then he was also known for his many other feats of cunning trickery, strength and bravery.


Family; Perseus parents are Zeus and Danae. He married Andromeda with whom he had seven sons, Perses, Alcaeus, Heleus, Mestor, Sthenelus, Electryon, and Cynurus, and two daughters, Gorgophone and Autochthe.

Tributes; Perseus is usually symbolized by Medusa's severed head.
