Heracles (Ηρακλής)

Translation: Man of outstanding strength or size

Greatest Hero of All Time

Heracles is known to be the most famous, and strongest of all of the Greek heroes. His name has gone down in history for his amazing feats of courage, masculinity, cunningness, loyalty, creativity and trials overcome. He was known to defeat both incredible monsters and villains, protecting and serving the people, although he was known for his violent tendencies. He was cursed by Hera to lose his mind and in so, his violence overloaded and he killed his wife and children. This led to the famous 12 Labors of Heracles, as when he asked for repentance, he was told to serve the king of Tiryns, Hercules' cousin Eurystheus.

The curse of Heracles;

Hera was angry at her husband for cheating on her yet again, and even more angry that that son was now a renowned hero. So out of her jealousy and rage, Hera set out to harm Heracles every way she knew how. Her maddening curse was by far the worst though, as Hera placed a spell over Heracles, that made him turn completely mad, and under her influence he brutally, mercilessly, and gruesomely killed his cherished wife and sons. He had no idea he was even doing what he was, heracles had blacked out, but when he woke he was mortified by the scene before him, his wife and children dead in his arms. So Heracles cried, he cried for hours mourning the death of his family, and ran to the temple of Apollo and asked for his forgiveness and on how to repent for the horrible crimes he had done. Apollo took pity on Heracles, knowing he was not at fault while he was under Her control. “Go to your cousin's kingdom, there you will serve him 12 laborers. After this, you will have repented for this anguish of your family's death. They died at your hand, but the blood is on another's. Go forth Heracles, you will do great things!”
