Tethys (Τηθυς)

Translation: Nurse

Nourisher of the Earth

Tethys is the titaness of freshwater, thus she was known to nourish life (Gaia, Earth) and nurse many back to keep their health. She is mostly known for her family, her husband Oceanus, and her children Potamoi (Rivers), Oceanids (Nymphs of springs, fountains), and Nephelai (Clouds). She appears on a Greek vase and is described as long black hair, with feathered wings on the crown of her head, and most often with Blue eyes.


Family; Tethys mother and father are Gaia and Uranus. Her husband is Oceanus, with whom she has three children, Potamoi, Oceandis, and Nephlai. With siblings like The Cyclopes, The Gigantes, The Hecatoncheires, The Erinyes, The Meliae, and the other titans such as, Crius, Kronus, Hyperion, Themis, Oceanus, Herus, Rhea, Creus, Iapetus, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, and Atlas.
