Hephaestus is the god of ire, smiths, craftsmen, metalworking, stonemasonry and sculpture. He was born with a physical deformity of being a hunchback and more physical deformity because his mother Hera is mother threw him off mount Olympus as a baby. Because of his parents obvious disapproval, he had always been a cold and selfish person. He married Aphrodite and tried desperately to get her affection, but she saw right through his efforts and could see how he treated others. He was depicted as a strong man in his 40s, often holding a hammer or riding a donkey.
How Hephaestus got his Wife;
Hephaestus was angry at his mother for her neglect, and to retaliate he set up a trap. He built a golden throne for his mother and asked for her to come down to see his peace gift. Hera gladly game to see her present and was overjoyed to find the throne, sitting on it immediately. However, Hephaestus had built in invisible and unbreakable ropes that tied Hera to the throne so she couldn't escape. She pleaded with him to let her go, but he refused. After being missing for 4 days, Zeus and the other gods found her, and demanded that she be set free. Hephaestus still remained unwavering as he enjoyed his mother's punishment. It wasn't until Dionysus got him drunk and Hephaestus demanded that Aphrodite, who everyone loved, be his wife. As he knew Zeus was trying to marry her off as fast as he could before fighting broke out amongst the gods. And so Zeus agrees to a drunk Hephaestus and he lets Hera free.
Family; Hephaestus’ parents are Hera and Zeus. His siblings include Ares, Hebe, Eileithyia, and Enyo. He married Aphrodite, but had 7 children with 3 different women: Eucleia, Eupheme, Euthenia, Philophrosyne, Erichthonius, Cabeiri and Palici.
