Iris (Ιρις)

Roman Name: Iris

Translation: Rainbow

Rainbow Messenger

Iris is the goddess of rainbows and messenger of the gods, mainly a handmaiden / lady in waiting for Queen Hera. She is the goddess of rainbows because she is both water and sky, she gets this from her father Thaumas and her mother Elektra. She is depicted as a young woman with large golden wings to match her golden skin, along with her Holden helmet, staff and water pitcher. She is also often mistaken for Hebe in art, but is mostly found near Hera or Zeus as a cup-bearer when she is not on duty. Iris is never a part in any myths herself other than as a messenger though, so not much is known about her in the sense of personal life.
